Well I'm interested in starting Parkour but before investing in the wrong shoes I want to be aware of all the best shoes. So, please could you tell me what will be the best pair of shoes to start practising Parkour?
Akkie, it depends on what you want to get out of your shoes. When looking for training shoes it's important to bear in mind what makes a good one. For Parkour the most important things are that it fits well, grip is good, flat sole so it doesn't tear or come loose, and an appropriate thickness of sole.
The shoe that most would recommend before any other would be the Kalenji Success sold by Decathlon. Unfortunately a few months ago they stopped selling these in all sizes apart from five and a half. They had great grip, flat sole, fitted your feet great and were really comfortable.
If your not size five and a half then there are a few other shoes that some practitioners have started investigating. Some have started using a martial arts shoe called 'fuieys' these have good grip while it lasts, but it doesn't last for long, the soles are very thin and wear quickly. Also when taking impact from drops these can really hurt your feet, I would only advise buying these if you are confident with your touch.
Also Nike Darts VI seems to be popular. These shoes also fit well, and have good grip. However I have discovered that they do take some wearing in, and the sole may start to tear off after a lot of use.
K-swiss have shoes that seem to be specifically designed for parkour, the Ariakes. These shoes don't seem to fit perfectly because they are made of leather and not mesh, however this does mean that then are very hard wearing. The grip on the Ariakes is fantastic to begin with, and they have a flat sole that is hard to wear through.
Inov-8 have also got a parkour specific shoe called the F-Lite 230 pk. These shoes look great although I haven't tried them for myself. They fit fantastically and have great grip. The sole is just the right thickness to make good touch, but also wear well. Also on the website they boast extremely scientific benefits of the shoe, and even say it aids running efficiency. Unfortunately, these are £60 but if you have the money I would highly advice purchasing.
Very good advice, but I'm just saying that I find the feiyues the best, especially when you put inasoles into them so that they have a tight fit to your foot and they arent uncomfortable.
